Baluch Rug NE Persia, Khorasan Region

Description In this rug one sees familiar elements of the Baluch design vocabulary rendered in a primitive fashion suggestive of a nomadic setting. Three Baluch-style trees divide the field vertically. Reciprocal animal or bird heads rather than the more common sectioned leaves populate the trees. Three rows of white flower heads or "nectarine" blossoms provide balance and stability to the field composition. The ground color has a brownish-red tonality reminiscent of a shade one sees in certain Turkmen weavings. Three abrashed areas transverse the rug.
