Domenico
Ghirlandaio' s Saint Jerome
|

Saint
Jerome in his Study, 1480, fresco, Church of Ognissanti,
Florence.
Domenico Ghirlandaio uses a rug much like the one he
used in Domenic Ghirlandaio Madonna
Enthroned mid 15th century.

As I looked at this it struck me that I do not recall
seeing this exact border in Memling Gul carpets so I
decided to blow it up and compare it to Ghirlandaio's "Madonna Enthroned"
|
Under magnification I see every
thing in the borders of the painting of Saint
Jerome that I see in "Madonna
Enthroned". So while I am hampered by
the resolution of the digital images I conclude
that Ghirlandaio used the same rug in both
pictures. |
