This is a rug that passed through my hands
several years ago. It is a popular style made in
Shirvan in the late 19th and early 20th
centuries.

I should have taken a better scan of the
outer guard border when I had the rug. It is a
flower blossom border commonly seen in Shirvan
and Kuba rugs. In Oriental
Rugs Volume 1 Caucasian page 206 and 207 Ian Bennett
shows 3 Flower Shirvans. Each of the three have a
similar outer guard. In is interesting to note
that only one has a Wine Glass main border but
that rug has the guard border closest to this
one. |
