If I lost it I would not replace it.

Of some use but not one I would go out of my way to find.

Useful.

Very useful and one I would recommend strongly.

A very important or even the definitive work on the subject. It does not have to be perfect but if I give it 5 stars and you are interested in that area then you should own a copy.

Not Yet Rated - I haven't gotten to it yet so if you wish to review it please feel free. Cleaves, Francis Woodman.  The Secret History of the Mongols. Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1982.

Cleaves was Professor Emeritus of Far Eastern Languages at Harvard University until his death in 1995. This is a tremendously important book. Cleaves gives a brilliant scholarly translation of the Yuan-ch'ao pi-shi. The translation seems extremely solid except for one word in section 64. Professor Cleaves translates a line as "rides a Qasak (Kirghis) cart" when I believe that he has Qasak wrong and therefore misses that the line refers to a symbolic leaving the clan/tribe to go as brides to the Qahan. Perhaps a minor point since the book is certainly one that anyone with a serious interest in the pre-Indian history of the Mughals should read. Mongol History. Lib

Craycraft, Michael. and Halley Anne. Baluch Prayer Rugs. Point Reyes Station: Dennis Anderson Photography, 1983.

If you are interested in Baluch you should have this book. Michael Craycraft is one of the more innovative researchers into the Baluch and he presents ground breaking theories that deserve consideration? Of course not but the book is an essential part of any Baluch short list. Plus the price is very reasonable. If you can find it. Do not count on the price remaining reasonable much longer. It is seems to be getting scarce and is either out of print or will be soon. Autographed by Michael Craycraft at Rug Convention 1995. Baluch Rugs Lib

Curzon, George. Curzon's Persia. London, England: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1986.

Peter King edited this down from "Persia and the Persian Question". Curzon was a British spy back in the days when England was bent on world domination. This is basically the tourist part drawn from a book that was drawn from Curzon's intelligence reports. While the actions of Curzon in the service of an evil empire is despicable there is much to be learned about Qajar Persia. Persian History Lib

Curzon, George. Persia and the Persian Question, vol. 2, (London: 1892).

This is basically a combination of travel guide and intelligence report. George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston was one of the strongest advocates of British Imperialism and the retention and expansion of the Empire. It was the actions of Men such as Curzon that the Nazi Germans used to justify their actions against Christians and Jews that have been dubbed the Holocost. Despite the repugnance I have for British propaganda this book is useful in that Curzon makes solid well documented observations that are useful in the study of Persia.
