Cleaning a Rug in Snow

Dear Barry,

On the topic of rug care and cleaning; what do you think of this. Rugs should be taken outside and laid pile side down in freshly fallen snow. This apparently has a cleansing effect without complete saturation or any other activity that might dissolve "dirt" or otherwise set it more deeply into the pile. The rug should then be allowed to dry thoroughly and placed back on the floor. This was a new one for me, what do you think?

I have heard the snow method from a number of reliable sources so I am inclined to believe it. However there is one caveat everyone I know who does it lives in an area that gets dry snow. By dry snow I mean snow that is cold enough that it stays powdery rather than wet packing snow. Here in the mid-Atlantic Coastal region we rarely get powdery snow and it usually melts quickly. I think the key is keeping the rug dry but I am guessing.

If anyone would like to give us their system for snow cleaning I would love to hear it.
