Hello Barry,
How about rugs on commercial sites will
you review those as well? There is a drop
dead gorgeous Afshar rug on www.Herat.Com.
http://www.herat.com/catalog/139.htm
Opinion on both the rug and the price
would be much appreciated.
All the best,
Danny

| Hello Danny, Glad to comment. Herat
is a common name so let me point out this
is Edward (Art) Koch's Herat, Ltd. in
Miami, FL.Art is a first class dealer
with a great eye.
The rug is a classic style and this
rug is a best of type piece. The color is
excellent, it is well drawn, and in
excellent condition. But this rug has
something most rugs don't: Important
provenance. This rug was published as
plate #27 in "Oriental Rugs of the
Hajji Babas" (Walker, Daniel.
Oriental Rugs of the Hajji Babas. New
York: Asia Society/Abrams, 1982 ). So it
looks good to me.
Best wishes,
Barry

| Description |
The
single plain lattice with tulips is in the
tradition of Central Persia garden carperts. In
this piece, the field drawing is restrained yet
well defined. This, combined with its rich,
abrushed tonality, creates a warm sense of depth.
Condition:
Excellent. Full pile. No holes or repairs. Two
small creases.
Literature: Oriental
Rugs of the Haji Babas, plate #27.
