| Hello, I have not looked at Don Wilber's article in ages then in one week I get interviewed about him by a major newspaper and then I seem to cite him in almost every post. Wilber notes dated Marasali all the way back to 1800 - 1824. he does not break it out to format and color. The best discussion of Marasali Prayer rugs is Kaffel, Ralph. Caucasian Prayer Rugs. With this work he has made a tremendous contribution and if you wart to learn about Marasali rugs this is the best source. My recollection is that silk is rare and even then usually used as the foundation not the pile. That is about all I can provide without seeing the rug but I hope it will help. Wiber, Donald Newton Dated and of Inscribed Rugs. Oriental Rug Review Vol. 15 #4, page 14 . There are two versions of the Wilber piece. The ORR version is more complete. Best wishes, |
