his(its)
derivation and market value for the insurance
company.
His(its) size 172sm x 200sm.
Is beforehand grateful
Yours faithfully
Ralf
Hello Ralf,
I moved your pictures over to this page. I try
not to send large emails to the group. I spotted
Michael Craycraft's reply (below) and included
that. MC is one the great rug dealers in the
world and he knows his stuff. I agree with him it
certainly appears to be a 19th century
Caucasian soumak. I have been taking a closer
look at Caucasian Flatweveaves. They are not done
yet but I am assembleing my notes:
http://www.spongobongo.com/0heq9945.htm
your rug is of a type often called Dragon
Sumac. I believe yours is Lesghi from Northeast
Azerbaijan and most likely from the Kusari area.
Best wishes,
Barry O'Connell

Ralf, your images are out of focus but
even at that it appears that you have
a 19th Caucasian soumak. If it is not
overly repaired it is worth in excess
of $5,000. mc |
