Comments On Condition: There are
a few very small reweaves. Both ends retain their
original braided warp fringe. There is a minor
break in this braid in the center of the lower
end.
Full Description: A large,
single-panel kilim, the striking palette features
horizontal rows of deeply indented hexagons in a
fresh, light green, clear, pale blue and deep
red. The serrated edges of these simple shapes
excite the eye and render the overall piece with
a sense of dynamic movement to the spacious,
balanced composition. A well-drawn sawtooth
meander in the ivory outer border (note how
deftly the corners are resolved) offers a
satisfying contrapuntal component. At first
glance this shows features found in Anatolian
Karapinar kilims, but the wool and palette
suggest otherwise.
