colors in the photo above are not accurate; see
the large detail below for the full range. This
purely decorative piece is solid needlepoint.
Such embroideries decorated the piles of bedding
in the yurt or village house. These are often all
labeled Laki, but were made
by other groups as well, so exact attributions
are difficult. The motif on this example is a
variation on the Turkmen "Memling Gul"
