The Widener Mughal Animal Carpet Borders
1. Grube, Ernest J. Muslim Miniature Paintings From the XIII to XIX Century. (Venezia, Neri Pozza Editore, 1962) p. 92 & 93 and plate 71. 2. The picture "A Prisoner" was copied by Farruhk Beg and called "Turkoman Prisoner" circa 1590 to 1600 and is now in the Musee Guimet, Paris. Farruhk Beg was in the atelier of Akbar in the last decade of the sixteenth century during the time in which he copied this picture. He was a colleague of Miskin, so it is reasonable to assume that there is a possible linkage of design leading to the Widener Mughal Borders. for a discussion of Farruhk Beg and "Turkoman Prisoner" see "Indian Miniatures of the Mughal Court" by Amina Okada. Translated by Deke Dusinberre, Harry N. Abrahms, Inc. Publishers, New York, 1992. p. 120 and plate 130. The Widener Mughal Animal Carpet, For Further Reading: Thanks and best wishes, J.
