Floral Medalion Persian Tabriz
Rug
4 foot 10 inch by 3 foot 6 inch
This is a new attractive well made rug. I
realize that eBay is sometime seen as a dumping
ground for dead inventory or flawed rugs. My
policy is to pick first quality attractive rugs.
I also personally examine each rugs front and
back for flaws. This rug has no color run, no
holes or tears and no problems that I can find.

| I believe it was Robert
Pinner who quipped the Bon Mot "better
weavers weave better rugs". It is equally
true that better designers design better rugs.
Obviously a village woman did not make up this
design as she went along. This rug is a product
of a superviesed workshop in Tabriz Iran. The
design is the product of an extremly talented
master designer. Take the corner for instance.
Instead of repeating the traditional Tabriz
corner the designer has made something very
special of it. Of all Persian
Rugs Tabriz
are often the most sophisticated. This one is
exceptional.

Condition: New, no dye run, no holes,
no tears, and no repairs. This rug lays flat.
Size: 4 foot 10 inch by 3 foot 6 inch
Use: ideal for floor use.
Origin: Persian,
imported from Tabriz
Iran.
A note about the construction:
This Tabriz
is thicker than we often see in Tabriz
carpets. This rug has more wool in it then I see in many Tabriz
carpets. There are rugs with higher knot counts but this
is an ideal rug for floor use in a better home. Frankly
one easy way to make a rug finer is to use less wool and
thinner yarn in the knots. This rug will hold up to floor
use because it is well made. When you look at the photo
of the rug each node or bump is one knot. Tabriz rugs are
woven with a two layer foundation similar to a Bijar
carpet.
Bijar Weave
|
Both the Bijar
and the Tabriz
use a symmetrical knot on a two level foundation.
The key difference is that Tabriz
and newer Bijars
use the same size wefts
but the older Bijars
from before W.W.II use a thicker weft
for the straight shot.
One of the tricks to watch for with Tabriz
carpets is to make sure the rug is not "all
back." When someone says a rug is "all
back" that means that there is little wool
pile compared to the weight of the carpet. This
and the other Tabriz rugs I am selling are
quality rugs.

This rug is from Herat Orientals of
Alexandria Virginia. Zia Hassanzadeh the owner and I are
old friends and we have done business for years. Zia has
given me Carte Blanche to select the rugs I like from his
inventory and Herat Orientals will handle the sale and
ship them.
This is an ideal opportunity for you since this way
you can find first quality rugs from the inventory of one
of the major importers to the US market. Herat also
carries a large inventory of large and antique carpets
and rugs.
Best wishes,
Barry O'Connell
