realize that eBay is sometime seen as a dumping
ground for dead inventory or flawed rugs. My
policy is to pick first quality attractive rugs.
I also personally examine each rugs front and
back for flaws. This rug has no color run, no
holes or tears and no problems that I can find.

| Up until recently Afghan
rugs tended to be loose floppy unsophisticated
village rugs. Then in the last 20 years better
made rugs often in Caucasian designs began to
show up in the market. These are often called Afghan
Kazaks or Khargai rugs. Afghan Kazak is
obvious, it means an Afghan rug often in Caucasian design. Khargai
refers to the new looms made out of steel. Better
looms allow weavers to weave better rugs. This
rug is typical of the new rugs, attractive design
with straighter sides. It also has attractive
color. Many call this "natural dyes",
without a dye test it is hard to say for sure but
this rug has the color tones we see in the new
natural dye production. |

Condition: New, no dye run, no holes,
no tears, and no repairs. This rug lays flat.
Size: 5 foot 2 inch by 2 foot 11
Use: ideal for floor use.
Origin: Afghan, imported from Afghanistan.

Afghan Kazak Construction
The Afghan
Kazaks use a asymmetrical knot on a mildly
depressed foundation. Not to say the foundation
is sad :-) Mildly depressed means one weft
is slightly straighter than the other which makes
one node of the knot lower than the other. Please
note in the picture above how every other node is
slightly lower. If this same rug had symmetrical
knots then it would be called a Hazara
which is woven by Hazara
weavers.
