This is not a new rug. It is older and
entering the peak of its beauty. The large format
and striking design make it ideal for a variety
of uses.
Traditionally these rugs are called Maslaghan
even though they are made in Maslaghan
as well as two neighboring villages, Kerdar and
Noberan. Since they are indestinguishable I use
the traditional name Maslaghan.
There is a very similar rug called a Kakaberu
made near Sennah but that rug is double wefted
and this is single wefted.

| Maslaghan
only produces two styles of rugs. The ones like
this which are distinctive because of the
lightning bolt outline dividing the field and a
bird rug. For an example of a Bird Maslaghan

Maslaghan. Maslaghan
is a village due east of Hamadan
in the Karaghan area near Kerdar and Nobearan.
For many years those rugs were attributed to
Mosul and were thought to be Kurdish.

Condition: Excellent condition older
rug with no dye run, no holes, and no tears. This rug
lays flat.
Size: 6' 5" by 4' 4"
Use: Well suited to floor use in a better home.
Origin: Persian,
imported from Iran.
A note about the construction:

Single weft is called "Sennah
Baft" or Hamadan
weave. Here the wefts
are rigid and the warps
are sinuous. As you can see in the sketch the wefts
are heavier than the warps.
It is woven with symmetrical knots. Since there
is only one shot of weft between each row of
knots this shows every other warp which makes
these rugs easy to spot.
