This is very pretty decorative room size carpet from Tabriz. The color is excellent and so is the wool. The wool and color are so good that I thought it would be a great rug if you are interested in room size Tabriz carpets.

A wealth of designs are made in Tabriz. Tabriz is the major city of Northwest Persia or Persian Irak as it was called in the olden times, It was at times the capitol of many Persianate nation states including under the Mongols, IL-Khanid, The Qara-Quyunlu, and the Safavid. The oldest dated carpet in the world is the Poldi Pezzoli Hunting carpet and was made in Tabriz in 1522

Structure: Symmetrical knot. 8 knots per horizontal inch and 7 knots per vertical inch. 56 per square inch (868 per square decimeter)

Yarn Spin: Z.

Warp: 1 ply ivory, gray, red cotton.

Weft: Single shot gray cotton.

Pile: 2 wool singles.

Ends: Post-hitch wharf binding with 1 inch warp fringe.

Selvages: Single cord overcastting red wool.

Handle: Heavy, soft wool, durable, dense.
