Kerman Luri Sumac BagSize: 2 foot 5 inch by 4 foot 7 inch. My wife Jodi collected this years ago in a local flea market here in the Washington DC area. She bought it as Baluch but when I got a look at it I became convinced that it was not. I came to the conclusion that it must be Afshari. I made that attribution primarily on the basis of the main border which has a design often seen in rugs attributed to the Afshar. I showed it to a well known Sumac bag expert from Alexandria Va. and he was sure it was Afshar from Kerman. When the great Iranian sculptor and rug expert Parviz Tanavoli came to town he convincingly attributed this piece to the Luri of Kirman province. Tanavoli was familiar with the village that produced this bag and he was quite certain. . Color is difficult over the internet, please use the Direct Scan below for the best representation of color in this rug.
Color: This bag has exceptional colors all of which look vegetal. The blue appears to be indigo and the reds look right for madder. The white is cotton. For Further Reading: Copyright
