Golpayegan Rugs: Vist Sarouk Persian Carpet

Sarouk Persian Carpet

Size: 7 foot 2 inch by 10 foot 7 inch.

I like this rug. As soon as I cut open the bundle and spread this one out I knew I had a winner. This is an outstanding carpet with some age. One of  best Sarouks that I have seen in a long time. Vist is a production center in the south of the Sarouk area. Carpets from Vist are usually a either a rather formal geometric or they are a Herati pattern as this one is.

Long ago the Sarouk production area was in a province called Arak. Arak was spilt up but in rug books they like to use the old terms. You will also see this mentioned as a Viss. Oriental Carpet Design by P.R.J. Ford is a great source on the Vist Sarouk.

This is a very pretty carpet. It reminds me of a carpet in the house I grew up in. My grandfather had beautiful taste in carpets and furnished a large old house in a comfortable style. I of course never got to meet him since he died in 1942 unfortunately most people in my family die at 63. I at times wonder if I will beat the family curse but of course it is sort of a blessing since no one ever dies before 63. My father made it to 63 despite a fair number (4) of bullet holes in him. I am more fortunate no one who ever shot at me had good aim. I try to find rugs that I like and I like this one very much.  I also think it is one my father and Grandfather would have liked as well.
