CATALOGUE NOTE
The small multicolored boteh that are generously
spaced on the camel field make this rug an
unusual example. Camel ground Belouch rugs with a
boteh design are not in themselves uncommon,
please see Boucher, Jeff W., Baluchi Woven
Treasures, Alexandria, Virginia, 1989, pl. 16 for
an example. In the present rug, the small dotted
boteh are similar to those found in two rugs once
with Eberhart Herrmann, a prayer rug, Herrmann,
E., Seltene Orientteppiche VIII, Munich, 1986,
pl. 99 and a rug, pl. 79, Seltene Orientteppiche
VI, Munich, 1984. Here, the boteh are rendered in
a wider range of colors than in most Belouch rugs
and are spaciously placed on the natural camel
ground. Seen on www.sothebys.com
