Wendel Swan's comments: It is interesting to note that the medallions and some of the filler motifs in The Textile Museum Karapinar are outlined in brown or black, a technique that is not normally found in the "kilim-style" Karapinars. Although this is a very minor factor, it may suggest that the weaver or weavers were not entirely accustomed to working in the kilim-style and that while they could normally follow the kilim-style technique, they strayed when inserting minor devices with which they may have been more familiar.

This rug was plate 43 in "Turkish Rugs" by McCoy Jones and Ralph Yohe I include the notes not as a critisism in any way but to show how scholarship evolves as we get more information.

There are three gold medallions on the soft red field. Motifs are in medium blue, blues faded to aqua, gold, and brown. An outer border of aqua has devices in reddish brown, sand, and light blue. Design elements of brown, gold, and light blue are on the white inner border. 16'6" X 4'. 19th Century.
