When these were sold there was some nasty critisism because we called thse Serapi. On the basis of out of date sources some poor fool concluded that these could not be Serapi. This is what was being woven in Serab in the late 20th century. Note in the detail to the left that the two meadions are side by side. This shows that they were using one cartoon for a number of different sizes. By taking the design in from the corners it allows the cartoon mistakes to be in the middle whare they are less noticable. |

Region, Iran Size: 6 foot 4 inch by 8 foot 5 inch. Structure: Symmetrical knot pulled to the right. 8 knots per horizontal inch and 10 knots per vertical inch. 80 per square inch (1240 per square decimeter). Colors: Hunter green, vanilla, sky blue, navy blue, midnight blue, sea foam green, olive green, salmon, brown, light salmon. Yarn Spin: Z. Warp: 3 ply white cotton. Weft: 2 shots lavender cotton. Pile: 2 wool singles. Ends: Post-hitch wharf binding with 1 inch warp fringe. Selvages: 4 cord overcastting salmon wool. Handle: Heavy, durable, soft, dense. Further Notes: Excellent condition. |
