Size: 3 foot 9 inch by 5 foot 6
inch.
This is an older rug from one
of the legendary Persian workshops. I recently
had the chance to acquire the collection of an
old friend who has decided to return to his home
in Iran. He attributed this beautiful older Isfahan Carpet to the
Shoreshi work shop. This rug is fine. The back is
very even and shows the signs of the best
workshop production.
Shoreshi
was one of the great workshops of Isfahan. It is
one of the earlier workshops and was instrumental
in the Isphahan revival in the early part of this
century. This rug appears to date from the mid
20th century so that would have put this in the
Shoreshi workshops latter period. This rug has
the traditional wool pile but has silk warps
which is generally attributed to 1925 or latter.
Please note the implied secondary medallion. The
artist who designed this so that the floral
elements create the outline of a secondary
medallion or an implied secondary medallion as I
call it.
