The Cloudband Serafian

Size: 3 foot 7 inch by 5 foot 10 inch.

I call this one the Cloudband Serafian. Please note the Cloudband in the lower center of the scan to the left. This is one of the most perfect Cloudband I have ever seen in a twentieth century carpet. It is a traditional touch such as this that makes Isfahan so special. This is the focal point of the whole rug.

This rug is in the style called Serafian after the great workshop that made this style. This one shows the ease and style and grace of the very best of type. I am not just referring to the near perfect Cloudband  but the simple details such as the two white flowers bracketing the main border central floral form. At first I thought that the cartoon was flawed because the petals were of different shapes but when I examined the design it became clear that the master had turned the flowers so that they bracketed the central floral form. Rather than a flaw this is actuality the sign of outstanding sophistication. The sign of a true master turning the expected into the exceptional.

This is a connoisseur's rug

The first time you see a new high knot count Isfahan it is pretty impressive. Since we usually do to have a way to qualify and quantify the rug many of us go by knot count. The higher the count the better the rug. But mundane physical details rather miss the point. Do we ever worry about the number of brushstrokes in Van Gogh's Sunflowers? The man who designed this rug was an artist. The balance and grace of the design as they interlace on a multiple plan design is technically superior

Very Fine Isfahan Workshop Carpet

There is a special carpet. One can not appreciate this rug with the first glance or by studying a computer image. This carpet must be savored, studied and enjoyed. Of course the Islimis is good and the medallion is well executed but it way that the pieces come together and compliment each other that makes it outstanding.

Just trying to describe this carpet makes me realize how very little I know.
