3 foot 3 inches by 4 foot 9
inches.
An Antique Hamadan Persian
rug with spectacular colors. This is one of the
very best Hamadan rugs
I have ever seen. Every once in a while I spot an
antique Hamadan and
when they are good they are as good as the best
of any area in Persia. This one is right up
in quality there with another of my favorite Hamadan rugs in the State
Department. In front of the fireplace in the
Secretary's dining room there is a beautiful Hamadan upon which they
used to set Secretary Warren Christopher's table
when he was dining alone or with one other
person. Secretary Albright may eat in the same
spot but I haven't been invited up since she
became Secretary of State.
Picture taken at an angle.
Color is difficult over the internet, please use
the Direct Scan below for the best representation
of color in this rug.

Further Notes: Very Good Condition. One old
repair of a puncture and the selvages could use a
little touching up. Usable but would look better
if it were done. This rug looks nice but with a
good cleaning it should be spectacular.

Rugs from Hamadan
region are only now beginning to gain in
appreciation from Rug Collectors. I make it a
policy not to push rugs as investments but there
is a lot to be said in finding beautiful antique
rugs before the prices escalate as a type becomes
popular. If someone were looking to build a
collection for the future Hamadan
rugs are a wonderful possibility. However when
building a collection let knowledge be your guide
and beauty be your goal. |
