Sailboats and fish a are unusual in in Turkmen
rugs but this is an unusual rug. This is a Khal Mohammadi carpet
from Afghanistan. Khal
Mohammadi is the name of the producer of
these rugs and he has gained notice in the
industry because of the bright clear natural dye
reds he has produced. It was sold to me as
vegetal dyed and there is no reason to think
other wise. I like to be cautious because without
a dye analysis any dye attribution is just a
guess but Khal Mohammadi's
rugs certainly look vegetal. All the colors are
good. I usually feel that with these rugs when
they tell me it is vegetal dye it really means it
is a better rug made to a higher standard than
usual and not an exact description of all the
dyes used but with this rugs I suspect they are
really vegetal.
This rug is attractive and utilitarian and
will stand up to years of heavy use. It is an
exceptional quality new rug.
