Hamadan Village Persian Rug

4 foot 5 inches by 6 foot 5 inch.

This is a wonderful old rug from the Hamadan area. It might be Antique but I am more comfortable calling it Semi-Antique The rug is well made and still in very good condition. The dyes look vegetal These rugs are made in the villages in the Hamadan area and are excellent rugs.

Structure: Symmetrical knot. 7 knots per horizontal inch and 11 knots per vertical inch. 77 per square inch (1193 per square decimeter) Not depressed.

Yarn Spin: Z.

Warp: Cotton, white. Hand spun 4 ply cotton warps

Weft: Cotton 1 shots, blue cotton.

Pile: 2 Wool singles.

Ends: Warp fringe.

Selvages: overcast with black wool.

Further Notes:The rug is reduced on the ends. Great color, no runs, bleeding, no paint, etc...

I like to be a bit conservative about dyes and age. The dyes look vegetal and really that is all you can tell with out a dye analysis. also a bit of a guess. The color is a clue. It looks older. The warps are a clue as well. They appear to be hand spun 4 ply cotton warps.
