Baluchi Kaudani Prayer Rug

This is a classical Kaudani Baluch. It is attributable to the Chahar Aymaq and Kaudani is a dialect of Chahar Aymaq very possibly a variation of Timuri. The wool is excellent and if this one survives the next century it will be very collectable. In the mean time it is a splendid rug for the floor.

The dark lines are from where the rug was folded in shipping they will disappear with use. Color is difficult over the internet, please review the Direct Scan below for the best representation of color in this rug.

Chahar Aymaq Prayer Rug, Northwest Afghanistan. twentieth century. Intact full pile rug in unused condition 2 foot 9 inch by 4 foot 5 inch. (not including fringe).

Structure: Asymmetrical knot open to the left. 11 knots per horizontal inch and 14 knots per vertical inch. 154 per square inch (2387 per square decimeter). Depressed warps

Yarn Spin: Z.

Warp: 2 ply tan wool

Weft:2 shot gray cotton with areas of 1 inch sections of additional wefts to keep the sides even. very sophisticated weaving.

Pile: 2 Wool singles.

Ends: Top: 5 inch weft replacement tapestry skirt with row of twining and warp fringe

Selvages: Double looped on two warp units. Maroon wool.

Baluch Prayer Rug

This is a really nice rug. It will give years of service and would stand up to heavy traffic. Keep it clean and it will stand up to even more traffic. These Chahar Aymaq rugs are great floor rugs.

The Chahar Aymaq are a people in Southwest Asia. The majority are in Northwest Afghanistan.
