Rarely seen in the West this is
a prime example of a Georgian Pardaghy. As a
source I cite Wright,
Richard. Wertime, John. Caucasian Carpets and
Covers. They attribute these flatweaves to
the Georgians and other unspecified
Paleo-Caucasian peoples. They also show a very
similar example in use in Tiflis in 1910.
It is obviously that acid
orange was in use in the Caucasus in the late
19th century. The fairly sparse use of orange as
in this piece lends credence to an early
attribution.

When it comes to Rugs Nothing is Unique!
It is kind of funny how things work I had
never seen a Pardaghy
before and as I wrote in the auction write up for
the earlier piece I did not expect to see any
more at anytime soon. When I stopped back in to
see one of my suppliers he said," How did
you do on that Persian Kilim, I found two
more."
I have this one and one that is like the first
but larger with some condition problems. This one
is in very good condition. I was telling my dear
friend Harold
Keshishian about my find and it turns out he
owns one of the two Pardaghys pictured in the
Wright Wertime Book.
