3 by 5 Foot Kurdish Village Rug

Very attractive thick pile rug new Persian. Nice colors, none of the neon colors used in the post embargo rugs. Hamadans are very durable because despite the low knot count these rug are made with thick heavy yarn of really good wool. If you are looking for a collectors item forget it, this is just a very substantial and pretty rug that will stand up to years and years of heavy use.

This rug is similar to a Hamadan Rug but has glossier wool than the Hamadan city rugs. This rug has better wool and a slightly more tribal look than the city Hamadans. This rug was woven in one of the Kurdish villages in the Province of Hamadan and uses the local wool.

In Hamadan province there are 1500 villages and each village produces an average of two types of rug. I bought a number of this type which I assume all came from one village. At first they all looked very much the same but after looking at them for a while I am amazed at how different they are despite the same look at first glance. Contrast this with Romanian rugs where they are stamped out with cookie cutter uniformity. One of the reasons for the enduring popularity of Persian rugs is the wealth of individuality in very similar rugs.
