Bahktiari Rugs: Shahr Kurd Bakhtiari Panel Carpet

Bakhtiari Panel Carpet are really similar rugs from a region. They never really were woven in great numbers by Bakhtiari tribes people but rather they were woven in areas controlled by the Bakhtiari. Without making this a Iranian history lesson the British armed the Bakhtiari and used them as a mercenary army to lend support to the British Oil interests. Consequently they were in effect a country within a country and these rugs are from the region they controlled.

This rug is a Persian Kurd from the Chahar Mahal. Good color, good dyes. This is a well made village rug. It is not the finest or most valuable of the Bahktiari Panel Carpet but is is a good solid village rug that will give years of service.
