Antique Rugs: Persian Malayer Runner

11 by 3 Antique Malayer Runner

This is a beautiful old Malayer suitable for floor use in a luxurious setting. This is a real Malayer not a Josan or Sarouk. The Herati pattern is traditional for Malayer and the color in this one is very good. This is an older Malayer and is representative of the older superior quality. There rugs are leathery like the antique Sarouks but the rug is single wefted. At 81 knots to the square inch this is also one of the finer Malayer rugs.

How We Select Our Rugs

Malayer Persian Runner. Iran, late 19th or possibly as late as early 20th century. 3 foot by 11 foot.

Structure: Symmetrical knot. 9 knots per horizontal inch and 9 knots per vertical inch. 81 per square inch (1255 per square decimeter)

Yarn Spin: Z.

Pile: 2 Wool singles.

Ends: 1 1/2 inch plain weave on one end, 1 1/4 inch plain weave with warp fringe other.

Further Notes: This is an old rug with a number of old repairs and reweaves. The work is good but turn the rug over and you can find it. The rug is in good condition and is ideal for floor use in a better home.
