James C. Allen bought this Asmalyk in about 1985 a few seconds ahead of Mike McKissick of Waterbird Traders in Dallas at the flea market for 150.00 dollars. He then sold it to Garry Ford for about $1500. Ford later sold the Asmalyk at Christie's Fine European and Oriental Carpets, Tuesday, December 17, 1996 at 10:00a.m. Lot 197, Estimate: $2,500-3,500. The Asmalyk went for well over $4000 A Yomud AsmalykWest Turkmenistan, Last quarter 19th Century. Having poled serrated Yomud guls overall in teal, aubergine, ivory and persimmon within an Ashik medallion border Approximately 2ft. 5in. x 3ft. 10in. (74cm. x 117cm.)
