Here is an Article done by one of our
readers. Unfortunately two of the pictures were lost.
JBOC
Here are four rugs from a very small group of six
known rugs for which I have made close up to permit
everybody to do easy comparisons. The four rugs are here
in enclosure.
They are so closely related in design that I think
that:
1/ they come from the same village
2/ were woven during the first half of the 19th century
3/ the Sotheby's rug (#1) seems for me the earliest
example.

Weft: cotton, ivory, ranges considerably in
thickness, 2 shoots.

A small number of rugs of this type are known, of
which this is probably the oldest
.they are
clearly derived from Safavid carpet, yet have
features that reappear in further abstracted
forms throughout North Western Iran and the
Caucasus.

Eastern Caucasus or North West Persia
Early 19th century
139cm x 243 cm
A particular descendant of the classical Harshang design.
The palette of rich, powerful colors, including
the reddish golden yellow field and a green
tending towards olive, is of special note.
