Professor
Bournoutian's work has been a Godsend to my
research. His thorough and carefully balanced
research and knowledge of the original sources
makes for a solid view of the subject. Most
"historians" who study the Caucasus
start from a political bias i.e. Russian,
Armenian, Azeri, etc... and precede towards a
predetermined conclusion. Bournoutian is one of a
handful that do not fall into that trap.

Telephone Conversation. I laid out my theory as
to why most kazak rugs could be attributed to the
Armenians. That from 1830 onwards there was a
influx of Armenians who made rugs that were sold
in Kazak and Gendge. That Russian historical
sources were passing off a pro-Russian view of
the Caucasus that biased towards Russian
political aims and ambitions. Bournoutian
confirmed my conclusions and recommended some of
his books and original sources that he translated
to English that would support these conclusions.
He also recommended an upcoming book from Edmund M.
Herzig.
Bournoutian's general agreement with my premise
is not terribly surprising since my work draws
heavily on his book The
Khanate of Erevan Under Qajar Rule.
I also mentioned that I had concluded that there
was a major section of Persian foreign trade that
was conducted through the Caucasus by Armenians
from the time of Shah Tahmasp
through the time of Shah
Abbas. He corrected me and said it continued
well up through the Russian period.
