The
Wher Collection Baluch Rug
Northeast Persia, first half 19th century
162 x 240cm (5ft 4in x 7ft 10in)
A well-known Baluch carpet from the Wher
Collection (9; pl.72) was a tactile treat with
its long, soft, supple, lustrous wool and a
visual feast with its wide, dramatic border and
its free rendition of the Mina-Khani design. It
was previously published in Herrmann Seltene
Orientteppiche IV, p.78; Thompson, Carpet Magic,
p.49; and Opie, Tribal Rugs, p.247. An arguably
older analogue is published in Black and
Loveless' seminal Rugs of the Wandering Baluchi,
pl.39. From: cloudband - dedicated to
rugs, carpets, textiles, Asian art and tribal
art.
