The now famous Jenkins Salor chuval,
fig.#7 in Mackie and Thompson, represents one of the true
high points of Turkoman art. It is the quintessence of
the three-dimensional aesthetic-the illusion of depth
created by distortion of outline or the modification of
size of different design elements; this chuval is
festooned with gulls literally flying from its surface.
