The Luri are one of the ancient Persian peoples of Iran. The major two groups are the Northern Luri which includes the Khorramabadi, Borujerdi, Nahavandi, Andimeshki, Bala-Gariva’i, Mahali (Rural), Cagani and the Southern Luri which includes the Boyerahmadi, Yasuji (Yasichi), Kohgiluyeh, Mamasani, and the Shuli.
Many of the tribal weavers of iran are Turkic but the Luri are ethnically Persian and represent some of the purest Persian weaving.
The Bakhtiari are also Luri but I deal with them seperately in

For Further Reading:

Bakhtiari carpets are a type of Persian carpet.

The Bahktiari are a Persian Tribal confederation made up primarily of Lurs. There is no dominant Luri wide tribal confederation so it is incorrect to call the Bahktiari a Luri sub-tribe. The Bahktiari have a special place in history because they lived around the oil fields of Iran and the tribal leaders sold out to the British early on. At times Bahktiari even hired on as mercenaries and fought under British orders.

Because of the infusion of British money the Tribal leaders lived in town and entertained foreign guests extravagantly giving the tribe a very high profile to the rest of the world.

The Luri/Bahktiari are linguistically Persian unlike the other Shiraz area tribes who were mainly Turkic or Arabic.
