DESCRIPTION
A Kazak rug, Southwest Caucasus
first half 19th century
approximately 7 ft. 2 in. by 5 ft. (2.18 by 1.52m.)
Warp: wool, Z2S, ivory, pale
brown
Weft: wool, Z2S (loosely plied),
3 - 5 shoots, red
Pile: wool, symmetric knot
Density: 7 - 8H, 6 - 7V
Sides: wool 2 cords of 2 warps
each, overcast in red
Ends: Upper - 1 in. red kelim
with two rows of brown pile near bottom, warp
fringe. Lower - 3/4 in. red kelim, warp fringe.
Colors: madder red, pale to deep
lapis, pine, teal green, maize, cardamon, ivory,
pecan, badger brown, clover.
Estimate: $15,000 to 20,000
