Hello Barry and fellow Baluchophiles,

I am hoping you can tell me more about this Baluch kilim (see photos in "Photos": bkilim1 and bkilim2). The striking feature is the mihrab:

1. The way it was embroidered on the flatweave.

2. The shape which seems to be a mix of a classic rectangular Baluch mihrab and a cross.

I have not seen anything quite like it before. Any comments would be appreciated.

The size is 3'4" x 2'2"; the weave is fairly coarse. The previous owner suggested it may date from the 1930s.

Hello Barry,
I was able to get one scan of a high resolution close up of the Baluch
prayer kilim. It shows the top of the mihrab plus the warps at the top of
the rug. I have added it to the photo album (bklim4a).
