Unusual Antique Gashgai (Qashqai) Tribal Persian Rug 4 8 by 6 8Veggie Dye Hand Spun All WoolFrom an offer on eBay by Hossein Hosseini Here is an opportunity to own a piece of the vanishing treasures of Persian Tribal Rugs. This piece was woven by a woman from the Ghashgai (Qashqai) tribes in Southwest Iran near the city of Shiraz. The rug was hand knotted in 1955. My family has owned it ever since. The rug is all wool, hand spun, all natural (vegetable) dye is used. The rug has been in storage for most of her life and is in Excellent condition. Full pile with all the original fringes. The exact measurements are 4 8 wide by 6 8 long without the fringe. There are 8 of fringe on each side with a 2 kilim. The weaver in her simplistic view is depicting a scene from the ruins of Persopolis (Takht-e-Jamshid). Persopolis used to be the Capital of the Persian Empire more than 2500 years ago. The weaver is depicting the fight between King Darius and the monster. (see picture below). There are other symbols from Persopolis as well tribal motifs throughout the rug The actual scene is carved in stone on one of the walls in Persopolis.
Make no mistake, this is a collectible piece in excellent condition. There are some copies made after the revolution, but this piece is original with natural colors and hand spun yarn
