Yomud AsmalykI spotted this very old Yomud Asmalyk on www.Cloudband.com offered by Cocoon, Mr. Seref Ozen of Istanbul Trusted Resource List - Rug & Carpet Dealers Outside The U.S. - Cocoon
Yomud Asmalyk
One school of thought is that the newer a Turkmen piece is the more regular the weave and inversely old pieces show greater variance in weaving techniques. This Asmalyk shows the most extensive use of offset knotting of any Yomut piece that I have ever seen. The variance in weaving technique indicates to me that this piece is of substantial age. I suspect that this is easily before 1830 and is candidate for c14 testing.
The variance in weaving technique is offset by the obvious skill in achieving the design. By that I mean that the variance was not an error but rather was used to achieve the desired design.
