Luxurious Silks of
the Ottoman Sultans
In this lecture, Louise
W. Mackie, Curator of Textiles and Islamic Art at
the Cleveland Museum of Art, will discuss how
imperial silk kaftans were worn by sultans as
symbols of the wealth and power of the Empire.
She will also examine how they were designed and
manufactured, and how special imported silk was
used in these exquisite creations.
