The Oliveira Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug with an Hexagonal Column

Literature:

See somewhat similar rugs on: Ian Bennett, Oriental Rugs - Volume 1 Caucasian, Suffolk, UK, 1981, plates 256-261; Ulrich Schurmann, Caucasian Rugs, Poolesville, 1990, plate 66; E. Gans-Ruedin, Caucasian Carpets, Thames and Hudson, London, 1986, pp. 200-201; see also pp. 274-275; Harold M. Keshishian (ed.), The Treasure of the Caucasus - Rugs from American Collections, Washington D.C.1992, plate 7; Richard E. Wright, Rugs and Flatweaves of the Transcaucasus, Pittsburgh, 1980, plate 24.

A Note from JBOC:

I see this rug a little differently than Jorge does. Based on my research I suggest that an attribution of Shirvan Karagashli is in order. This rug is a variant of a popular and much sought after type. Normally Karagashli rugs are attributed to Kuba but I feel there are Shirvan or Shirvan like Karagashli rugs that only differ from a standard Shirvan weave in that they have a ribbed back.
