Sennah Kelim
Compare the detail
to the left to ill 31 Eiland. Oriental Rugs A Complete Guide page 40. The flowers and overall design is
very close to the Eiland illustration. Eiland notes that 19th century Sennah Kelims are very
similar to Sennah pile rug patterns. Eiland. Oriental Rugs A Complete Guide page 100.
Cecil Edwards mentions that the weavers in Sennah
(Sannandag) use a very fine yarn with a tight twist. Edwards, A. Cecil. The Persian Carpet. page 122. Edwards was speaking of pile carpets but this same
yarn is used in the Kelims. This makes a very fine Kelim. Sennah and
Bijar kelims can be very similar and fineness and yarn size then become
the key to attribution. Sennah is much finer and Bijar is thicker and
relatively coarser.
