Wade wrote the following in the auction ad:

"Size: with flap opened- 2'2" x 3'3". Flap closed: 2'2" x 2'2". Condition: Very good. Added section on back of kilem. Excellent work & old. Slight areas of moth damage(nothing serious). Complete with original edges & multi-colored braided fringes. A number of these Yomut pouches shaped like envelopes, have survived. This pile woven pouch is made in one piece with pile corners and a plain center. Three flaps were sewn together and the rim of the opening sewn around with woolen braid. Made initially to carry a large flat loaf of bread in connection with a wedding ceremony. Vegetable dyes and a red cochineal. Wool warp and weft. K.P.S.I.: 9 x 24. Has been professionally washed.Needs nothing, but your favorite place to enjoy.Buyer must pay for shipping, and proper insurance.Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Yomut Bokche
A Bokche is Turkmen for a pouch to carry a flat loaf of bread that played a key role in the courtship/wedding ritual. Robert Pinner describes the Salor ritual as the mother of the bride providing gifts to the mother of the groom including a flat envelope shaped bag called a Bokche. Hali 100 The Turkmen Wedding. Page 104. The Yomut ritual is most likely about the same as the Salor.
