This unusual Yastik size
Flatweave appears to be Anatolian Kurdish. Yastik
are small seat mats and that is the only purpose
for which I can see these being used. This piece
is also unusual in that most Yastiks are pile
rugs.
I searched the literature for
comparable pieces but I failed to spot any that
seemed to match. I am sure there must be some and
as soon as I post this it will probably come to
mind. I arrived at my attribution by a process of
elimination. It is not Afghan or Central Asian I
have seen enough of those pieces to feel sure.
Obviously not Moroccan or any of the
Mediterranean countries, except Turkey. Not
Caucasian and lacks the crispness to be Iraqi.
Maybe Persian and if so Kurdish.
Looks more Turkish. Sumac so I think Kurdish
rather than Yoruk. So between Turkish and Persian
Kurdish I choose
Turkish because it is an intact mat and not a bag
panel. Remember if you did not see it woven
everything else is just a guess.
