I am not sure who said it but there is an element of
truth to it. Abbas
Safavi Shah or Shah Abbas the Great made Isfahan his
capitol and established it as one of the great cities of
the world. If I were given a choice of Paris or Isfahan I
would pick Isfahan.
When Shah
Abbas Safavi brought the Armenians of Julfa
to Isfahan he realized that he had to give them
churches and guarantee their religious freedom.
The construction of Amenaperkich or the Church of
the Savior often called Vank (Armenian for
Monastery) Cathedral began in 1606 and was
finished between 1655 and 1664 As you can see the
exterior is r
ather tame but the interior is a fusion of
Armenian, Persian, and Safavid art

Isfahan is one of the great Persian cities for Persian
Carpets and the Carpet Bazaar is a busy place.
