Robert Irwin
is a novelist, publisher, consultant editor at
the Times Literary Supplement and a Fellow of the
Royal Society of Literature. He is also the
author of The Middle East in the Midddle Ages:
The Bahri Mamluke Sultanate 1250-1382, The
Arabian Nights; A Companion, Islamic Art,
Night and Horses and the Desert: An Anthology
of Classical Arabic Literature and the
recently published The Alhambra. He is
currently editing a new translation of The
Arabian Nights as well as a volume of The
New Cambridge History of Islam. He is about
to finish a book on the history of Orientalism. Return
