Lot 400
Salachak (cot cover?) by the Jaffarbai Yomut,
north east Persia, first half 20th century, 4ft.
x 3ft.3in. 1.22m. x 1m.
The exact function of these weavings remains
controversial. The cot hypothesis has achieved
the widest acceptance but the presence of a
mihrab -like motif suggests the possibility of
use as a prayer rug. All known examples seem
comparatively recent. Est: £500-800
