JBOC Attribution: Oriental Rugs, Turkmen Rugs, Yomut Rugs, Yomut JuvalA Yomud Turkmen Tent-Bag (Chuval)
A Yomud Turkmen Tent-Bag (Chuval), Turkmenistan 19th Century, partially oxidized browns, minor moth damage, some fraying to selvage, a few small holes. Approximately 3fl. 2 in. by 3fi. 11 in. (0.96 m. by 1. 19 m.) Of the enormous number of Yomud tent-bags that were brought to the west after the destruction of the Turkmen way of life by Czarist Russia, few have the power to touch the feelings. The color harmony and perfectly balanced yet forceful composition of this example is unusually attractive. The pair to it is published in Eskenazi, John J., L'Arte del Tappeto Orientale, Milano, 1983, No. 271. Also: Hali, vol. 4, No. 3, 1983, p. 253.
