Catalogue Notes: In the unusual field design of this rug, the six pointed stars bear a marked resemblance to those of the border of the Sackville Mughal Animal and Tree Carpet (Metropolitan Museum,, inv.no. 17.190.858, see Dimand/Mailey, fig. 128). Both pieces can be attributed on stylistic grounds to the transitional period of the first half of the 17th century, making use of design elements found in 16th century Persian carpets. Comparison may also be made with the Ballard Mughal Rug (Metropolitan Museum inv.no. 22.100.73, see Dimand/Mailey fig. 132) which incorporates an unusual geometric field design

Note: To further a long term research project I am collecting data. When a piece such as this may be of interest to others I have decided to share my notes prior to culmination of the project. As such the attributions are my own and may be different that the catalogue attribution. Any additions, information, or corrections, would be appreciated.
